2024 Career Predictions No One Will Tell You
Anti Promotions, Career Portfolios, and Virtue Signalling
2023 was exhausting. In 2024, the world of work is set to undergo significant changes. With the rise of AI technologies, it is crucial for young professionals to become familiar with AI tools while remaining adaptable to different platforms. Rather than following a traditional career ladder, individuals should approach their job as a portfolio, prioritizing high-value skills and multiple job types. In this landscape, promotions and title changes lose their significance, and career lattices serve as mere distractions.
If you are into astrology, Pluto has now moved into Aquarius which hasn’t happened since 1777. This placement usually signifies massive institutional changes which you can read more about here. Think about all the revolutionary events that occured in the 1770s: the French Revolution, the War of Independence resulting in the signing of the Declaration of Independence, and the cotton gin was invented.
Overall, the year 2024 marks a significant shift in career dynamics, pushing individuals to embrace digital footprints, career portfolios, and adapt to the changing landscape shaped by cancel culture and technological advancements.

The Changing Perception of Job Promotions
In the past, promotions were the ultimate marker of career success. Climbing the corporate ladder was what everyone aspired to do. But things are changing.
In 2024, the traditional concept of promotion isn't as significant. Instead of a single ladder to climb, careers are becoming more like a jungle gym. Professionals are valuing quiet quitting their day job and upskilling via side hustles rather than just vertical ascents.
The focus is now on gaining diverse experiences, learning new skills, and embracing different job types. In fact, a linear progression in a single company is becoming less common. Switching roles, industries, or even starting a new venture has become the new norm. Upskilling has become exploited via “growth opportunities” making employees vulnerable to quiet hiring. This has led to Gen Z turning to side hustles for career and salary advancements.
Moreover, the significance of job titles is diminishing. This shift in career dynamics requires a new mindset. It encourages professionals to be adaptable, curious, and resilient, and to focus on continuous learning instead of just chasing promotions.
The Weight of Individuality in the Workplace
In 2024, the workplace is less about conforming to a company's culture and more about celebrating individuality. This shift is driven by Gen Z, a generation that values authenticity, creativity, and individual expression more than their predecessors.
As the idea of a 'company man' fades into the past, employees are encouraged to bring their whole selves to work. Companies are realizing that their strength lies in diverse perspectives. They are moving away from a one-size-fits-all approach and embracing an environment where everyone feels valued for who they are. What happens is too much individuality is seen as a problem again.
Freelancing and side hustles have never been easier to start yet are still not normalized in the workplace. When we learn more about ourselves we start to learn what we are and are not good at. One single corporate job will never keep up with Gen Z’s rapidly changing interests which leads young people who identify as career focused people to look at the additional streams of income. The shift from a career ladder to a career portfolio will start to boom in the coming year.
The Demand for Flexibility from Gen Z Professionals
The traditional five-day work week? So passé. In 2024, the four-day work week is gaining traction, primarily driven by demands for greater flexibility from Gen Z professionals. This generation values work-life balance and autonomy over the old-school notion of clocking in hours at the office.
Gen Z professionals are challenging the norm of being tied to a rigid, 9-5 work schedule and advocating for more control over their working hours. They understand that productivity isn't about the number of hours spent at work, but about the quality of work produced.
This demand for a four-day work week is also about creating space for personal growth, hobbies, and relationships outside of work. It's about redefining what work looks like and seeking a more balanced, fulfilling life.
Companies that embrace this trend are likely to attract, retain, and motivate young talent. And it's not just good for employees. Research shows that a shorter work week can lead to increased productivity, better mental health, and lower turnover rates. So, it could be a win-win for everyone involved.
The Rise (and hopefully fall) of Political Activism
In recent times, the line between work and politics is more blurred than ever. The rise of political activism in the workplace, driven by a generation of socially conscious professionals, is becoming a prevalent force.
Employees, particularly Gen Z, are increasingly expecting their employers to take a stand on social and political issues. They want to work for companies whose values align with their own. They're not just asking for their employers to respect their political views; they're demanding it.
This rise in workplace political activism can be challenging for companies. They need to navigate a fine balance. On the one hand, they need to foster an inclusive environment where everyone feels safe to express their opinions. On the other hand, they need to manage potential conflicts and ensure that political discussions don't disrupt the workplace.
We are now at a bubble, give the current crises in the Middle East, where I am witnessing employees censor and even fire their own employees due to political stances. (One of them I used to work at). This is an example of abusing political activism into conditional virtue signaling. Additionally, this is can be quite controversial, but your work is not your townsquare. We do not need to foster a political stance on every event.

The Exhaustion from Repetitive and Unnecessary Work
As we move into 2024, the traditional 9-5 job is losing its appeal. One of the key reasons for this is the growing exhaustion from repetitive and unnecessary work.
Employees are increasingly questioning the need to spend 40 hours a week in a job when a significant portion of that time is wasted on unproductive tasks. They're growing tired of endless meetings that could have been emails, bureaucratic processes that slow down work, and tasks that don't add value.
This exhaustion is not just about physical fatigue. It's about the frustration of not being able to do meaningful work, of not seeing the impact of one's efforts, and of not having control over one's time.
This trend is pushing individuals and companies to rethink how work is done. It's about focusing on productivity rather than hours, on results rather than activities. It's about eliminating unnecessary work and creating space for creativity, innovation, and meaningful work.
As the dominance of 9-5 jobs falls, a new work paradigm is emerging, one that values efficiency, flexibility, and meaningful work over rigid schedules and unnecessary tasks.

This is my first holiday while full time self employed so I am learning so much about time management and self care at the moment!
I am currently re-reading 10 Secrets of Awakening by Nick Zei
This book dramatically changed my life from feeling stuck at my 9-5 watching my coworkers get laid off to authentically being who I am and to creating a life I was meant to live.
Zei does a really good job of explaining all of the spiritual concepts out there today in a short digestible format.
I have been hosting Matt’s family which has been a huge growth opportunity for me when it comes to energy management.
I just hired a new editor for the podcast and Youtube so be sure to be on the lookout for the new ideas I have!
